New Zealand Greenshell™ Mussels are high in protein, low in carbohydrates and calories and provide many valuable minerals and vitamins. Their Omega 3 content is helpful in the prevention of heart disease, lowering triglycerides and thinning blood. Other nutritional components include vitamin B12, selenium, niacin and polyunsaturated fatty acids.
Scientific research is increasingly pointing to the health benefits of eating New Zealand Greenshell™ Mussels, including relief of Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoporosis. New Zealand Greenshell™ Mussels can also be consumed in powdered form.
A report in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggests mussel consumption can lower fat in the blood. Shellfish contain as much protein as a T-bone steak per serving, with 15% of the calories and 6% of the fat (United States Food and Drug Authority).
